Helping your kids eat the right foods is tough these days. They’re bombarded daily with tempting images from television, magazines, the web - even their friends...It’s hard for them to say no to good looking foods. But good looking doesn’t necessarily mean "good".
We’re in there with you – we found some great online resources to help you get more informed. Here are our picks:
Foods kids need – and want!
The site, MyPyramind.gov, is terrific – it’s chock full of information about the newly re-designed Food Pyramid which re-focuses food priorities. The site has plenty of information for adults and children - it even shows you ways to make the Pyramid work for you personally. You can create your own personal eating plan using the correct food groups and so on. The section for kids is specifically geared to 6–11 years old. There’s a fun interactive computer game called Blast Off where kids can get to Planet Power by fueling their rockets with the right foods and physical activity – a great way of engaging them in this "parentally challenging" task. There are posters to color, snazzy worksheets, and way more - take a look:
